Tiles
Grade 5
Here at Hopewell Elementary it has been a long standing tradition for 5th grade students to create their own original tile. The finished pieces are then hung around the door posts of a classroom within the school. We have been working on this project for the last several weeks.

Collage & Chalk Pastels
Collage & Chalk Pastels
Class # 1 - We read the book and started our collage.
Class # 2 - We studied the illustrations inside the book. Artists often times make thoughtful choices about the colors and placement of objects. In the cave, we noticed that the warm and cool colors were used. This was also our first time using chalk pastels, which we learned how to properly blend with our fingers.

Firebird - Finished Artwork
Students have completed their firebird artwork. Submissions with permission slips for the contest were collected and sent off to be judged by the Princeton Symphany Orchestra for the contest just this week. Here is just a sample of a few of the finalized pieces that were sent off. We had really thoughtful and creative artists. I can't wait to see the results. There will be other schools and districts within the area participating. Look for the 20 - 24 finalists to be displayed at JaZam's in April. Good luck Hopewell Elementary!

Doodle 4 Google
Would you like a chance at seeing your artwork appear
on Google’s webpage? If that isn’t enough, the grand prize is a $30,000 college
scholarship for the winner.
Last Year's Winner |
Doodle 4 Google is an annual, nationwide art
contest that gives kids a shot at landing their artwork on the Google homepage.
This year’s theme is…“MY BEST DAY EVER”. Any students in grades 1-5 who would like to
participate, please ask Ms. Maneval for an official entry form or you can
directly download and check out the rules from the Doodle for Google website at http://www.google.com/doodle4google/index.html
Submissions for Doodle 4 Google will be accepted by Google via mail or directly downloaded to Google through March 22.
This is the 6th year of the contest
and participation keeps growing.
Last year Google saw 114,000 works of art from kids across the U.S. in comparison to 16,000 in its first year.
The U.S. winner will be announced May 22; his or her art will appear on
the Google homepage on May 23; and the 50 state winners will have their art
displayed from May 23 to July 17 at New York's American Museum of Natural
History.
